[edit] Veris em Tassiato
A character in "The Snow Princess", a one-shot tabletop RPG. Played by Sean C.; written/GMed by Matt M.
[edit] Description
A mild-faced, likeable-looking human, dressed in conservative (but possibly rather expensive) new winter clothes.
[edit] Writeup
You doze, drift; ideas begin to become fluid in your mind, attaching themselves to each other, shrinking, elongating absurdly—you snap awake. Damn! Damn, damn. Again.
How much have you lost this time? Well, you still know your name (you almost never forget that). You know you’re on a pre-industrial planet with no consensus name, heading for a city-state called Ryme. The reason eludes you. And you know, of course, that this has happened a great many times before. Your memory shreds itself like this every . . . perhaps every year? Every few months? Somewhere in that neighborhood, certainly. Leaves you with very little. You have to rely on your wits, your charm, and your money. Money’s always useful; you don’t like to think of what you did, before this started happening, to get so much of it.
But Ryme will be different—yes, now you remember. Too little technology, which means little to no access to the Mediate. So no public free-flowing anonymous information; no easy way to figure out how and why you might have come here. You’d guess that it’s got to do with goldwire, though that could just be something you picked up from other passengers’ talk while you were half-asleep. Given your condition, you wouldn’t have made a trip like this if it weren’t important.
So you’d better proceed, toward whatever end awaits, yes? You’ll need to work out how much you’ve already said to these other passengers, how well you’re supposed to know them. With any luck, the answer’s “Not well”—that would mean you could start fresh with them. There’s one of them you’re worried about, a man with eyes like holes burned in the earth who’s been staring at you ever since you woke up. You’re not sure what to do about him. But it’s a big world, full of people with very different ideas of politeness; there’s nothing to say that he’s any more hostile than that cheerful-looking Blackbeetle, or any of the other passengers.
When you’re in a situation like this, the trick is not to be paranoid. Hopefully these people can help you. It’s very important to keep your condition a secret, and to be ready to lie without hesitation—but don’t lie if you don’t have to, and don’t be untrustworthy or unfriendly. You’ve gotten by for a long time . . . as far as you can recall . . . by assuming that no one’s your enemy.
