The westernmost peak of the Northern Mountains looms ominously above the miniscule outpost of Rock Heart. It has become a brooding place in recent years, the strange vegetation of the mountain creeping inches closer with every passing day. The villagers speak of blood-drinking beasts that are like no animal they have ever seen, of townsfolk driven quite suddenly mad, and of great roars that sometimes echo down from the mountain's heights on certain very still, very silent evenings.
The six who have gathered here from parts unknown are going to brave the mountain and its dangers. Each has his or her motivations, strange or untrustworthy though those may be; but dark knight and dreamer, animal speaker and taxidermist, mercenary and hunter, each is stepping into what could be their redemption, or could just as easily become their demise.
The creatures of the mountain shift uneasily in the too-quiet night. Some of them chance to wonder whether it is, after all, the better lot to be the hunter than the prey.
