[edit] Threshold
A whole lot of plot stuffed into a very small planet.
Long ago, the Ancient Ones created the perfect society, without conflict or irrationality. They perfected their technology and with it themselves, making themselves immortal and godlike in power. The price, though, was their very souls - for only beings without passion can be without conflict. For untold years they listened to the songs of the stars they flew between and worked uncaring on the projects they assigned themselves.
But every few million years, an Ancient One was born who still contained that spark of passion and longing. One such refugee, in longing for a less sterile universe, set in motion a plan which created a planetoid of chaos, a world of story and legend come to life ruled haphazardly by a machine that would be God. Some of the inhabitants longed, unknowing, for the purity and perfection of the Ancient Ones, while others turned inward, making themselves into beings both more and less than human.
Now, hundreds of years later, a small band of unknowing misfits travels the ever-changing and surreal place that is their home, struggling to put together the pieces of their origins and understand their world. But time is running out, for the Ancient Ones are coming back in all their power, to ensure that their perfect universe is not challenged...
