[edit] Game Synopsis

Dear Sir or Madam,

Are you unsatisfied with your current station in life? Are you looking for a way to change your world, but do not know how? Do you feel as though there is an untapped potential inside you, just waiting to come out?

Have you ever considered Night School?

~ * ~

Sentinels: Night School is a game of modern horror and adventure, where normal people must attempt the extraordinary, banding together to beat back the darkness. You can expect glorious and dangerous combat with the aid of polyhedral-dice. You can also expect dramatic roleplaying, both as your character and in NPC roles given to you for particular scenes.

Inspirations include Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Ghost Busters, Witch Hunter Robin and goodly number of horror films—both funny and scary.

[edit] Characters

[edit] PCs

  • Alise: Sometime nightclub singer, sometime psychic, all around hottie.
  • Joanna: Duel-wielding German pistolnatrix.
  • Brenden: wise-cracking ex-military med-student medic. Who sometimes glows.
  • Abel: journalist and obsessive photographer.
  • Carina: bare knuckled boxer with a gut worm (now cured.)
  • Leon: video game wizard boy.

(descriptions mostly courtesy of Brenden)

[edit] NPCs

  • Nick: British bartender and owner of Night School. Alise's employer, Joanna's former RA(?) and Library Studies graduate.
  • Cameron: Bouncer at Night School, l33t fighter of The Darkness.
  • Felix Crane: Evil, enigmatic and terrifying summoner of pillars of flame. Tends to consume others youth when tired or mortally wounded.
  • King Crate: Weapons-runner and black marketeer. Where by "black" we also mean "magickal."
  • Thomas (also, Tommy): Leon's Strange But Knowledgeable Brother. Doesn't Leave Home Much. Eats Twizzlers In Diet Coke. Speaks In All Capitals.
  • Officer Kauffman: Brenden's police contact. Hopefully thinks Brenden is crazy, but asks him questions and sometimes helps us cover up our supernatural activities. Seems to have a posse of her own.

[edit] Soundtrack

  • Right Where It Belongs (theme song)
  • Life During Wartime (other theme song)
  • Red Right Hand
  • Jumping Someone Else's Train
  • Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting

[edit] Quotes

"That was like watching Gene Kelly fall down the stairs." Amon, on Joanna's 1 climb check and 20 tumbling check.

"Great work." -Dan, as Corrina's sleazy boss, trying to get her out of the office. "...and you're fired." -Eric
"...and your sister is hot." -Serin
"...and I like the way she quickens her pace when someone is following her." -Matt

"I'm going to have to make her think I have 5 or 6 people I hang out with socially - that's going to be a tough sell" -Matt, on convincing an acquaintance that there's a logical explanation for Leon having dinner with the rest of us.

Brendan's capsule biographies:
"We have the video-game wizard boy, the bare-knuckled boxer with a gut worm, the German pistolatrix, and the psychic hottie."

"You're lying! I want to be there!" -Lauren, reacting to how all the other characters are hogging the fun of trying to lie there way into places.

About fingerprinting in elementary school:
"It was for kidnapping." -Eric
"Yeah, and the Human Genome Project is for science." -Dan

"Is there an advantage to 'I cast you out' over 'I tap you'?" -Matt, on exorcism

"My...associate...wishes to microwave you." Lauren, in a fake Russian accent.

"I have a real problem with this torture shit, but I have your leg here..." -Matt, holding the still living/connected leg of a demon.

"We must have a friendly priest somewhere, someone who's hip to the ways." -Eric
pause
"No..." Amon and Lauren, in identical tones of semi-horrified realization and denial.

"Dude, he got nailed to a tree and got over it. He won't flip if I bring a skull into the house." Eric, re: taking the demonic head into a church.

"What about *your* geek? How do you know he's not working for them?"-Serin, as Officer Kauffman
"My geek is too goddamned wussy to be working for them." Eric, as Brenden.

"What do you know about the Kranes?" Serin, as Officer K
"The correct answer is: they sure can take a bullet or two!" -Matt

"We collect heads!" -Eric, as Brendan
"You shouldn't tell me that!" -Serin, as Officer K
"We turn them in!" -Brenden
"Where?!" -Kauffman
"...To the head depository." -Brenden

"Because Felix doesn't talk to any of his relatives in Boston" -Serin
"Well, he's a shining example of a power asshole, so I have to assume maybe he doesn't." -Eric

"Wait...does that mean there's a demon living in the figurine living in my cleavage?" -Lauren
