"We pledge our life and souls to turn back tomorrow, to the preservation of England and mankind if only for one more day. We swear this by our faith in the King and the truth of what we know.
In His name, Amen."
What is the RING? Well, we could be the illegal para-military operating under
the direct command of the monarchy, an invisible rearguard for humanity, or a man holding
you at gunpoint.
Remember the incident at the Yard last month? Of course you do- you remember seeing the horrible screwed up faces on those kids, remember digging deeper than you should have until 'it' came up right under you- into several pounds of C4.
And what did you get? A dishonorable discharge for doing the right thing in the face of madness. Most of your fellows in the MI-5 are bloody bastards, and those who aren't eventually find themselves in your present circumstance.
Now, you have two choices- put this black bag over your head and come with me, or I can put two bullets into your chest and one in your head.
So what's it going to be? The bag or the bullets.

FOUNDATION
In March of 1947, Sir Jonathan Brighton, then a SAS commando, was part of a six-man raid given sanction by the Crown for behind-the-lines wetwork for espionage, assassination, and wartime disruption. Their primary objective was upon Himmler's primary 'black lab' just north of Britain in hopes capping the bloke himself.
It was two weeks later when Allied forces, crossing the Rhine, recovered Sir Jonathan Brighton and [EDITED] with serious injuries. The [EDITED] died in medical after a few days. Sir Brighton had in his possession a briefcase that he would not relinquish and due to ambiguity over jurisdiction, he was allowed to bring said bag back to Britain.
In June of 1947, Sir Jonathan Brighton returned to Hanover and was awarded the 'Royal Family Order' and was granted a request for a private audience with then Prince Albert, Duke of York and Queen Elizabeth. After the meeting, he was given permission and funds directly from the Crown to organize the little known organization called the "Royal Investigation and Neutralization Group".
Called RING for short, all further backtracked paperwork was lost and the eccentric Sir Jonathan went missing for nearly five decades before resurfacing in his self-declared retirement in 1996. For the most part, the formation of the organization was seen as simply a quirky request granted by a then beneficent monarchy and was quickly lost in the annals of time.
In truth, the open license and more importantly, the funding, was used by Sir Brighton to eventually create eight six-man 'cells' that operated with the authority equivalent to, and occasionally superseded, MI-1. Further funding and legalities were filtered through Sir Brighton who handpicked the men who performed investigations, and if necessary, more... martial duties in the service of the Crown.
Coming from the elite amongst the SAS, MI-5, and Scotland Yards finest, the members were inducted and all records of them were purged from all records, likely through Brighton's connections in several departments in the British intelligence community. Close contact was maintained with another paranormal agency called 'PISCES' since 1967. This particular organization dealt with psychic research into 'talents' that could be utilized by Britain. A much larger organization, it was able to provide needed resources and manpower when necessary, often utilized in 'slash-and-burn' ops. However, since 1987 contact has been reduced on orders of Sir Brighton to reduce widespread knowledge of the RING.
Activity includes, but not restricted to- espionage, larceny, blackmail, torture, assassination, and everything else with a stamp of the monarchy to cover them.
Undercover investigation and neutralization of occult and 'mythos' threats to Britain were the standing orders and continued until July of 2004, when the RING was officially disbanded and for all intents and purposes, no longer exists.

IRA TERRORIST CONSPIRACY DISCOVERED! June 27th, 2004
Seventeen people are dead following a crackdown on local London dwellings after an anonymous tip-off alerted authorities to a terrorist plot against the people of England. An impending plan to destroy Aerospace Corporation headquarters with a car bomb was barely averted by swift action between the joint effort of the MI-5, SAS, and Scotland Yard.
At about 9:00 A.M. a stolen Mazda approached the gates, driven by four men and two women described by Whitehall as known IRA members. They attempted to enter the garage to gain access to the corporation, but were thwarted by three fast-moving SAS trucks that blocked their path. The following shootout filled the plaza with the sounds of automatic weapons and the cries of wounded.
An eye witness, Scott Richardson, a local Starbucks worker described the noise of battle as "somethin' straight out of Savin' Private Ryan. I was crouched outside the window and there were men with gas masks and machine guns openin' fire onto a Mazda they blocked in. They spent a good five minutes shootin' it, even when their cries of surrender went silent. I was petrified!"
After the incident, seven IRA 'cells' were discovered to be operating in London itself. Prime Minister Tony Blair called the planned attack as "Disgusting, just disgusting, a terrible tragedy. But we will not give up the cause for peace in Northern Ireland."
Most of these IRA members have been arrested or shot in ensuing gunfights in their hideouts. Authorities report "just massive stashes of money, guns, and equipment" at each site, far outstripping even higher end estimates of the IRA resources. Sources found at these site even implicate notable members of the British high society, namely a Sir Jonathan Brighton, a retired WWII veteran who was once rewarded the "Royal Family Order" by the Queen herself. He was found dead by authorities when they came to his home in Hanover for questioning. He had apparently killed himself at close-range with his own handgun (of illegal caliber).
IRA leaders have issued a strong denial of their involvement in the planned attacks.
Analysts consider the target and plan of action to be an odd choice. Jonathan William noted that the IRA has avoided corporate institutions in the past. "Their fight is with Her Majesty's Government, not business. By planning an assault on the public sector and therefore directly with the everyday British citizen, they have put themselves in the same wicket as Bin Laden and the Quaddafi. It's baffling."
Several terrorist members are reported still at large and we encourage all concerned citizens to maintain their vigilance against such people.

PRIORITY ONE
GENERAL ORDERS TO ALL ACTIVE AND INACTIVE RING MEMBERS
It has come to my attention of the disastrous failure of Cell D has attempted to destroy what they report as 'an infestation' in Severen Aerospace Corporation and has failed rather spectacularly. My sources have relayed to me that MI-5 was tipped off from PISCES of Cell D's activity and despite their knowledge of our work and history, has become hostile to all RING units.
This all smells bad, and considering the amount of damage that has already been inflicted, I believe that we, both as an organization and individuals, face annihilation. Our resources are a thimble to their bucket and we are the ones backpedaling. I am enacting Case C and having everyone scatter with no contact until further notice. If PISCES has human motives to destroy us, or heaven forbid have been 'infested', then we may have their talented surveillance team breathing down our necks, and minds- clairaudience, clairvoyance, precognition, psychometry, second sight... they have all of those and who knows what more.
Avoid any communication via electronics as they have been known to track through those and WILL eventually decode our best encryptions. Flee the safe houses. Stay alive.
For all intents and purposes, the RING no longer exists until the danger has been cleared. I do not believe I myself will be able to live for terribly long and I am far too old to make a break for it even for old time's sake. Our contact to the monarchy, the Duchess, is just arriving and I will demand to know what the blaze is going on here. We will sort this through.

[edit] Three Years Later
You are the members of the very stubborn Cell C that has managed to survive the massacre of RING organization. In violation of your last standing order, you have reformed after a brief scramble. For the last three years underground with few resources and nonexistent 'official' authority while maintaining day jobs to support yourselves. Attempts to uncover what had transpired in 2004 has met with a few close calls and casualties- after all, how do you fight an organization with tendrils into the other branches of the government and uses psychics for surveillance?
Cell E has survived the purge as well, although contact has been kept to a minimum. Recently, they have been following up leads on an American organization that has been working on British soil with connections to the occult.
For Cell C, finding and destroying threats is still the business of the day and being disenfranchised from local authorities has given plenty of wetwork for the members to indulge in. The team itself is a mix of both old and 'new' members, but none have joined recently. Cell finances are being aided by your 'royal' contact with Sir Eric Dalton, an aging pro-royalist born several centuries too late.

Pips
You will each start with 25 Pips (i.e. xp, cp) and you will earn an additional 20 Pips per session. Here are the relative costs to buying things in the RING:
-Skills: 5 (0->1), 10 (1->2), 15 (2->3), 20 (3->4), 25 (4->5)
-Attributes: 15 (1->2), 20 (2->3), 25 (3->4), 30 (4->5)
-Expert Skill (Max of 1 per skill): 25 Pips (replaces a 5th skill die)
Certain skills cannot be bought up without the GMs permission. These include Occult, Mythos, and Equilibrium.
[You may spend a maximum of 16 Pips on the below each session. You must announce the last two before you roll.]
-Reduce Killing Damage by 1: 8 Pips
-Reduce Shock Damage by 1: 4 Pips
-Expand Width of Any Match: 10 Pips
-Increase Height of Any Match (does not break 10 max): 4 Pips
Madness Meter
Using the optional rules in the Nemesis handbook, where if you fail your Madness check, you get failed notches between the difference of your roll and the difficulty, not just 1.
Spray
A new change to spray weapons. You may add a spray die up to the weapon's spray rating and follow spray rules as normal. The number of bullets you spend in a full round that you are spraying is equal to (# of spray dice) x (# of dice you are rolling).
Overwatch
Overwatch is the act of covering an area with a ranged weapon in the anticipation of hostile enemies entering it. Every round that you spend in Overwatch gives you a +1 (max of +2) to determining the initiative of your first attack. If your roll would be over 10, the initiative rating starts from the bottom, but with an increased width of 1. This is only for determining initiative and not for hit location.
Penalties and Bonuses
Here is a short list of penalties and bonuses that I am house ruling:
