[edit] Jeshtrahan em Spaiten
A character in "The Snow Princess", a one-shot tabletop RPG. Played by Lauren A.; written/GMed by Matt M.
[edit] Description
A hard-looking young woman with a thousand-yard stare. She moves with a dead machinelike precision, as if she were incredibly strong but each of her limbs weighed a hundred pounds.
[edit] Writeup
They soldiered you eight years ago. It was during the Aejn Uprising, a five-month war that produced a lot of Aejn refugees, a sadistic Provisional Constitution, and not a lot else. You were half-Aejn yourself, but whatever, the government drafted you—and by the time you were done soldiering up you were too resequenced to count as anything in particular anyhow. And after the war . . . after the war, it turned out some of the alterations they’d made were illegal. Your whole battalion was disbanded, reassigned. When you started losing touch with them, hearing about accidents, disappearances, unlikely desertions, you made yourself scarce.
Since then it hasn’t been as bad as the war, but it’s been pretty wretched. You’re haven’t exactly become a contract killer, but some nights it’s been damn hard to tell the difference. That’s probably why you like to take your vacations as far away from civilization as—
as—
But no. That’s not right. Stepping into this ridiculous sled carriage thing, you had a very satisfactory, very reasonable reason in your head for coming here, but the instant you saw him it was just like your innards were made of brittle glass. You don’t even remember what it was, this reason you had for going to Ryme. For the whole eleven hours of this trip you’ve sat here, staring at him sleeping. There’s a name that goes with—not his face, but the way he moves, the way he breathes. Ejmerick; that’s a Skanish name, for what it’s worth. Familiar. He’s familiar, and he shouldn’t be.
You might want to make a couple of calls, look up that name, but you’d need to get on the Mediate to do that. And you have no great faith that Ryme will be connected up; you’ll need a longlink, and you don’t have one.
Who is this fucker? Why do you remember him? It’s not supposed to be possible to condition you. Who is he? Why do you remember him? Why?
