[edit] Character Description
A youngish man with a slightly croaking voice. Raban's avatar dresses in ragged, motheaten black splendor; he goes about with a small crowlike creature perched on his shoulder. Remarkably poor table manners.
[edit] Character History
Backstory
Raban has been in Providence for a number of years. It's common knowledge that he was trained by a member of the Ghost Dancers, but was inducted into the Essenes at the end of his apprenticeship.
Until the fall of 2004, Raban stayed well clear of Adept politics. A recluse to the best of his abilities, he operated in downtown Providence and maintained a few personal relationships, but did what he could to avoid, for example, deep involvement in the struggle for the city's magical nodes.
His excuse for all this was an elaborate project or experiment: the development, through mediation and appeals to deeply concealed inner virtue, of a communalist, nonviolent, self-sustaining polity made up of Providence's Corvus brachyrhynchos population. No, for real.
Season One: Odi et Amo
In late 2004, the Jackdaw became much more heavily involved in the world of Adepts--reluctantly taking part in the "node war," interceding where nonaction might have been better, complaining at great squawky length about having interceded where nonaction might have been better, having fiery visions, and so forth.
On the heels of this renewed interest in the larger world came the change of seasons, March and April of 2005, with attendant deaths and conflagrations; though these events drove him toward what he very vocally considered to be enlightenment, they also jeopardized his relations with the Essenes and more or less severed his personal ties to the Ghost Dancers.
