[edit] Game Synopsis

Ireland: 1348

The black death ravages the countryside, all but decimating the English invaders. Ghost towns lie empty, populated by swollen corpses, and the ravens feed well.

In the sleepy, fog-laden town of Faelgarde, some three days ride west of Belfast, a murderer is on the loose. A prominent Banker has recently been slain, and women are disappearing from the streets in the night. The local sovereign, a nobleman by the name of Sir Elliot Lorald, has commissioned a group of private investigators to solve the murder and the disappearances, and restore peace to the quiet little town.

[edit] Game Concept

This will be a short game, 3-4 sessions.

The Nemesis system was developed for Horror games and allows a good range of characters. I'm adapting it to take out the modern references... for instance, 'Drive' now refers to covered wagons or chariots, and skills like 'Hacking' aren't around.

We'll have a character generation session once I get your backstories.

[edit] What I Need From You

A short character concept, describing who your character is and why they've agreed to investigate the murders. Since there was no formal private investigation service at the time, your characters can come from any range of relevant backgrounds... maybe you're an ex-soldier going to provide some muscle, or learned son of a noble going to test your intellect, or a monk going to learn about the monastery. Anything, dramatic or drab, will do. If you want to run a backstory idea by me or have me help you think of one, hit me up.

[edit] A Letter From Sir Elliot

My Friend,

I hope times find you well. I am Sir Elliot Lorald, Lord of the Faelgarde estate, and I wish to entreat upon your services—and your confidence.

My estate has fallen, I am afraid to say, upon difficult times, and the Faelgarde townsfolk have petitioned my aid. It seems, most regrettably, that there is a murderer on the loose, as a prominent citizen of the town was discovered slain yesterday, and several more have vanished. The circumstances, I have been informed were… incriminating.

The Baron has little interest in providing investigators or soldiers to the town, and (this also in confidence) I have no desire to involve the royal government in the affair. I believe someone of your talents could aid me in routing this foul mystery, and I am prepared to pay well for it. Your reputation has preceded you, and I have no doubt as to your abilities in these matters.

If you accept, as I hope you will, I will meet you personally in Belfast and provide transport to Faelgarde, some 3 days journey hence. There you shall meet with Guard Captain Jonas Dewinne; he should be able to provide you with all the evidence gathered thus far.

You have my thanks and blessing,

Lord Elliot Lorald
