Playing the Angel:

Upcoming 2010 Boffer LARP Events

Aralis 2

Next event date: March 13, 2010.

This will be a ONE-DAY event, starting at 12 noon and running until midnight. It will run at Camp Eagle Pass in Wales.

Cost to PC the event will be $40.

More information on the event will be forthcoming. However, for planning purposes, we are providing some details now:

---

You're not quite sure of how you arrived here... or where, for that matter, here is. You half-remember dreams of hurrying through a snow-covered forest, pursuing (or being pursued by?) eerie figures in long, flowing red garments.

The date, so far as you last knew, is the 13th of Yoren, called "Victory Day" by many in honor of the end of the last war against the Dark One, 20 years ago today in Wainwright.

You don't immediately know why you are here, but you are dressed as for a formal occasion: what looks to some of you like a masquerade ball.

---

Setting Notes:

You should expect to encounter creatures of faerie. There will be other creatures and encounters as well, however. The setting is such that if your character wouldn't want to come to this event but you (OOG) would, you still have reason to be present.

When you appear, you are wearing elaborate formal garb. It is up to you (OOG) how you dress, but we encourage elaborate costuming, and there may be small in-game benefits to wearing such costuming. This need not be something your character would choose to wear, though obviously it would have to be something that wouldn't cause him/her to have a panic attack and hide in the woods. Fancy or even outlandish costuming is entirely appropriate, however, even if it's something your character wouldn't own or know how to put on.

We may provide more specific details once we have a good idea of what the weather will be, but no character will be required to spend time outside after the first half hour of game. That being said, some characters may want to for certain encounters, so you may want to wear or bring costuming that would make that practical.

When you first arrived, you were wearing a mask of some variety. It is up to you whether you continue to wear that mask or even bring it with you - if you wish, your character may have discarded the mask and need not account for it. We encourage you to provide your own masks, but if you can't and your character would continue to wear one, let us know and we will attempt to supply one.

It is not practical for your character to have an entire second set of clothing, but if you wish to have some add-on items (cloaks and the like) to wear outdoors, space will be provided for them. A second set of shoes is also perfectly appropriate for those characters who are likely to want them.

---

System Notes:

There will be no maintenance cost for this event. However, there may be an in-game value for Foraging and nourishment points, at least for some characters.

Money skills will provide half value (round coppers down).

Alchemy can be used to create 1 scroll per level, rather than 2.

Rituals can be cast, but will require twice the number of Ritual Magic levels to cast or to redraw cards.

An "8-hour" shift reset will occur at 8 PM. "2-hour" watch resets will take place at 2, 4, 6 and 10.

I don't expect any character to be required to be armed, but things involving weapons may come up for those of you who wish to pursue them. Additionally, I can't necessarily promise that you won't be attacked by other PCs...

Endgame 2010

Madrigal 2010

Madrigal events have been run at Camp Woodstock.

7 Virtues 2010

The first one-day event for Seven Virtues will be on March 27 (a Saturday) at Eagle Pass Campground in Wales, MA (same location the fundraiser/playtest was at).

The one-day event will be an orientation event in game, where you'll get to meet the teachers and fellow students and learn a bit more IG and OOG about what you're in for. It will be relatively low-key (note: relatively), and we will try to give you good opportunities to feel your way into your character and get to know other characters in the 7V universe.

This schedule is contingent on site readiness. If the site isn't ready by the May event, we will either run another one-day instead of a full weekend, or postpone til June, whichever makes the most sense.

The later events are also contingent on site readiness, but hopefully that won't be an issue.

We also plan to do a winter event in early 2011, but are not planning a date for that yet.

Valhalla 2010

The majority (if not all) of the campaign will take place in Asgard. Players will be the heroic dead who occupy the great hall of Valhalla. In order to get into Valhalla, your character will have had to die in a heroic way that would have drawn the attention of the Valkyrie. A rough time frame for the game will be 800-900 AD.

The campaign will include the classic LARP elements (role-playing, fighting, traps, riddles, puzzles, etc) and much more.

The rules will be available February, as well as further campaign information.

Axes will do more called damage than swords. I know this is a small point but I think it is fun.

The campaign length is undefined.

The events will run from Saturday 11 AM through midnight. There will be sleeping space available for anyone who wants to stay over Saturday night. Clean up will be on Sunday and must be completed by 11 AM. There will be a substantial financial incentive ($20) to the first 20 players who stay or come back for clean up on Sunday. Events will be held at YMCA Camp Lincoln in Kingston, NH - the same site as Atlas, Radiant and Pirates.

I will start taking individual questions about the game starting February 1st. Please send questions to:

bbecker at actionball.com

There will be a yahoo group site by February 1st as well.
