'Join Aegis', they said, ' See the Universe' they said. Well, the universe, as you know now, is mostly empty. The poor fools who have never been off-world don't know what its like. Lots and lots of emptiness.
And as a crewmember aboard the APS Angelus you've gotten pretty familiar with how empty empty really is.
But you're inbound to Barnard's World, stopping off at the Darklight listening post for resupply. In less than a week you'll be on some sunlit beach or sitting in some restaurant, relaxing after a year-long tour of the periphery systems. You'll have all the time in the world to do whatever you want.
The flight officer has all the cargo accounted for, ready to transfer to Darklight. The automated docking procedure went smoothly. The airlock door unseals, and a slight rush of air is felt as the pressure equalizes.
It's dark inside. And still.
Too still.
But you have all the time in the world to figure out why. All the time in the world.
(In case you are unaware, Aegis is a science fiction game set a couple hundred years in the future. While normally a space marine game, this one shot will focus on an aerospace contingent out of their element.)
